No. 11 - a quick sew because no one really wants to turn their iron on right now
There’s a new state of being that’s gaining recognition around the social medias called reverse seasonal affective disorder, a kind of summer malaise if you will. It’s essentially where you lose motivation when the heat starts to kick in and this year it feels like august has come especially early in some places.
Post Me Made May you can really feel the dip in the desire to sew online. Could be summertime RSAD. Could be “Hey it’s summer! It’s my season and I’m doing summer things”! But the desire to make complex pieces has dwindled, touching anything other than linen or cotton is a no no and spending more than 2 hours on a project feels arduous.
We want light. We want airy. We want quick! Enter the Vento Tank….
Summer for me is the hardest season for dressing. Layering in the colder months makes me feel more put together while wearing less items for sake of heat makes me feel a bit naked. Not being a dress person I felt a hole in my wardrobe around easy non knit tops which tend to be the default. I needed something that could hold print and pattern and was quicker to sew.
In designing this sewing pattern the neckline shape was very important to me (and is in off the rack shopping). I wanted it to feel outside the norm, outside the expectation. I also prefer to show off some skin, and it had to be bra friendly, so I landed on a U/V hybrid. This way the upper chest is wide while the lower chest is slightly more demure but still deep.
Continuing with the french dart theme (see Teague Dress) I added a long one at the side seam of the tank while on the bra top it’s shorter and slightly deeper. The DD range was built off a B cup while the JJ range was built off a D cup but I highly recommend muslin-ing either view to see if you need more shaping in your bust darts aka full bust adjustment (the dart is shallow so should be ok for B cup or smaller with no adjustments).

The fit of the bra top is smaller and you can see the differences in the finished measurements chart. Since it was made to be a pop over I had to maintain shoulder circumference. I say this because, depending on fabric, you may find you want less gathering which would mean making the pieces narrower. However this leads to struggling to get it on and off so you’ll have to figure out a way to put a closure somewhere, FYI/ heads up.
However however, choosing fabrics like linen, lawn, shirting, silk, rayon create really nice gathering effects. Basically if you go heavy, let’s say with a twill to match your Brier Pant 😉, it could be bulky. Or you may like it! It’s all experimentation!

Similar to the Loose Leaf about pants and choosing different front and back sizes, could a larger busted person experiment with a larger front size and a smaller back size and ease in the differences in the side seams?
