Loose Leaf : Feedback and Updates
thoughts on feedback vs. criticism and what's happening in 2024 with Daughter Judy
Hello! Here we are with a new franchise to the Substack world; the Loose Leaf. This will be a bi-weekly publication that focuses on styling, inspiration, mood boards, shopping, hacks and general conversations about what’s going on in the home sewing world and the Daughter Judy world.
To kick it off I wanted to take some time to talk about feedback. Specifically feedback vs criticism. It’s part of any business big or small and owning said business automatically opens you up for it. There would be no progress if consumers kept their mouths shut about bad/wrong/meh product and when you put something out in the world (that someone has paid for) it is subject to public opinion, full stop. It’s expected but I do have thoughts. And that’s exactly what these are: my thoughts on how I run my business. Everybody does it differently and if you’ve had a shite experience with others I am on your side! It’s a two way street and most importantly a relationship.
Before we get into those thoughts I wanted to share the silo a sewing pattern goes through at Daughter Judy before it is released. There are layers that went into creating it so it’s not just me the owner, it’s my contractors, editors, testers and sometimes things get missed by everyone. It happens.
The secret sauce :
Design is drafted in the DD size range at a size 10/12/L which is then cut and sewn for me to fit. I fit on my body because I like my proportion for the grading and I can also feel what needs to be tweaked. This may go through 1 or 2 more rounds.
